Written on December 4, 2009

Reuters reports that Finland’s UPM-Kymmene, Metso and Fortum said they could start making wood-based biofuel by 2012. UPM, engineering group Metso and the Technical Research Center of Finland started a pilot project to produce biofuel from forestry sector biproducts this year. Fortum said it would join the project. The firms said costs to set up the pilot plant in the city of Tampere, with daily production of 7,000 liters, totaled around $7.5 million.
