Arizona firm turns turkey waste to fuel
The Arizona Republic reports that AZ Biodiesel is planning to turn Phoenix, Arizona residents’ Thanksgiving Day waste into biodegradable, non-toxic biodiesel fuel, and has set up drop-off points for the oil used by people who fry their turkeys for the holiday. The fuel sells for about 30 cents less than regular diesel and boosts drivers’ fuel-efficiency by as much as 3 miles per gallon. AZ processes used frying oil, such as peanut oil and canola oil, to make the biodiesel. AZ gets most of its supply of waste oil from the area’s largest waste producers, including hotels, restaurants and hospitals.
