San Diego needs partners for bioduel push
The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that while San Diego, California, seeks to establish itself as a center of biofuel research, experts say the work won’t pay off without large partnership deals with established energy companies. A panel of experts said that such deals will be critical to providing the billions of dollars in capital necessary to get the industry up to commercial scale. Verenium is among a number of companies that already have struck such deals. It has a $135 million partnership with energy giant BP that focuses on development of cellulosic ethanol.
