Yum! Brands Steps Up Green Recycling Efforts, Biodiesel Industry Benefits
metroGREEN+Business reports that Yum! brands, which holds fast food chain restaurants including KFC, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and others is aggressively moving into the “green” trend with respect to its real estate holdings as well its operations. Aside from energy-conserving tactics now being adopted by Yum!, the company plans to send its used fryer grease and food waste to facilities that will turn it into biodiesel. Yum! currently boasts a 62% rate of facilities that recycle already, as well as a KFC in Nagano City, Japan that is entirely powered by biodiesel and uses much of its own waste as the main source of energy. It is expected that other restaurants, in attempts to boost image and make fast-food chains more appealing to consumers, will follow suit.
