Jatropha Gets Attention, Investment Boost From Asian Company Tata Chemicals

Written on January 7, 2009

Biodiesel Magazine reports that the new biofuelcrop, Jatropha, is being researched and grown on a bigger scale now and with much interest. JOil Pte. Ltd. of Singapore, a jatropha seedling company that has been set up by Singapore’s Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory Ltd. (TLL) and other investors, is receiving a $25 million investment in its crop production from Tata Chemicals Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd. Tata will receive lab-engineered varieties of jatropha from Temasek Life Sciences through JOil for the company’s biofuels program; Tata will also receive exclusive marketing rights for JOil’s Jatropha. Tata said the varieties become productive sooner than other known varieties and provide improved and more consistent yields.
