New Bills for Biodiesel and Biomass Await Michigan Governor’s Signature
Domestic Fuel reports that several bills addressing biodiesel and biomass are on Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm’s desk, waiting for her signature to help make the state a national leader in alternative fuel production. Some of the bills include creating five new Alternative Energy Renaissance Zones for facilities that use cellulosic materials for fuel production, a requirement that the Michigan Department of Agriculture develop standards for a 20 percent biodiesel blend, expansion of the Renewable Fuels Commission’s role and scope, and creation of a property, sales and use tax exemption for machinery used to harvest biomass. These bills would also help create thousands of jobs in a state that is currently on shaky employment ground. Further details are available at Michigan’s publication, The Bay City Times.
