DEP Secretary Hanger Visits Under-Construction Ethanol Facility in Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania media Gantdaily.com reports that the U. S. Department of Environmental Protection’s (DEP) Acting Secretary, John Hanger, paid Clearfield a visit along with other public representatives on Monday for a walk-through of the Bionol Clearfield LLC project. With full and passionate support from the state’s governor, the facility, expected to open in 2010, begins with the plant’s water intake facility along the Susquehanna River where pipes bring in 30 gallons per bushel of corn to be processed. The $270 million project is slated to produce 108 million gallons per year of ethanol and employ 50 to 60 local workers. The project will consist of both a corn-ethanol facility and a cellulosic pilot plant, one of the first in the nation.
