Sunshine Coast Cane Land and Biodiesel Industry Threatened

Written on August 27, 2008

TheDaily.com.au reports that cane land on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland, Australia is being threatened by multi-tile properties for housing. This threat also affects the biodiesel industry’s viability. Councillor Debbie Blumel recently wrote to Tony Burke, Federal Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry, to ask the government for $1.301 million in sugar industry reform program grant funding. The grant would be used to release investment funds to support cane growers and production and rehabilitate degraded farmlands.
