India Biofuels Market Poised To Boom
RenewableEnergyAccess reports that India’s renewable energy industry is estimated at half a billion dollars in size and experiencing 15% annual growth. The U.S. Department of Commerce is inviting American companies to participate in a trade mission to India near the end of the year, which will be lead by the Under Secretary for International Trade.
One noteworthy point is that 540 million tons of plant biomass are produced every year and that biomass can be refined into fuel such as ethanol. The Indian government has recently mandated the use of 10% ethanol fuel which has created a local demand of 3.6 billion liters of fuel.
In addition, the country may be capable of producing up to 7.5 million tons of biodiesel fuel per year from Jatropha Curcas and other edible and non-edible oils.
